Hope all the best for everyone!
Work hard and play hard!
 (digital)

This is the new year card I did for 2013! In chinese culture, the blossom flowers would bring wealth and fortune, so the chinese are used to buy flowers in the beginning of the year.

My Book Binding Class

Yeah! I know how to bind a book by myself now. Although I had already graduated and got my BFA, I think I need to flesh up my mind and keep learning new thing. Thus, I attend to the book binding class, it is a nice class.  Here is some photos of my mid-term project, I used my illustrations for some of the pages and did a resin decoration for the cover.

RUN!

oil on gesso board (17" x 22")
I have learnt a lot of things from this painting. When I need to create a place/environment by my own imagination, I have to locate the shadow, reflection on the right place in order to make it looks believable and it is very difficult to do. Although I got some references to help me out, it just requires my brain to keep thinking the relationship between the light and shadow all the time.
This painting is going to be finished this week, I still need to tone down some parts...such as the bird at the top right hand corner.
I also took some working process photos to record my progress, but I think I delete the photos accidentally. Sad!
Hope I can move on to the next illustration next week.

color comp for the story...

Recently, I just keep working on the sketches and color comps of the story that I wrote. The above color comp is one of spread of the story, I think I will do the finish illustration in oil or acrylic. After I finish all the sketches, I will let you know the whole story. For this illustration, I like the frog a lot... Do you notice where frog is? Zoom in, and find it out! haha!

Besides, I got commissioned jobs! YEAH! I will do my best. Thank you for my client.

p.s. Boosko, when I saw your website was down...I cried. Hope you can recover and be better soon. Miss you~

Handmade Necklace

I didn't spend much time on my illustration in last two weeks...reason? Because I almost spendt all my time to learn how to handmade necklaces!! I didi it and I am so excited about it now! I used my illustration for all these necklaces and I love them so much. It's always exciting to go beyond who you are and do something that you never learn!

There are more designs of the necklaces in my etsy shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/phoenix7472
Besides, there are also prints of my illustration. Since I just start to do it, I set everything in lower price and hope more people can buy them!

Always can be better...

Do you notice the differences and the improvement? I revised the painting after having my mentor, Kam Mak's critique. I really learn a lot from him:)) Obviously, the one on the right is the revised one that the girl is much more alive and everything is just more three-dimensional. It is always can be better!

A girl lives in a tree house with a fox...

8" x 10" (oil on gesso board )

under tone painting

In previous post, I had this girl in the painting and she appeared very small in the composition. Thus, I feel like I own her a portrait, which can show her lovely face clearly. I am definitely like her outfit and wish someone can make one for me!

handmade clay model!!

Finally, summer comes and I miss my winter so much now. Last week, I kept working on this tree house painting and really enjoyed to paint the tree texture a lot. There is still some minor areas that I need to refine and fix...Overall, I am happy about this one. Besides, I think making a clay model helps  me a lot for figure out the correct shadow and I would use this method for my future works.

The New Start

Yeah! I graduated!!!! I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who supports and loves me, specially is my family! Since I came from other country, this four years at FIT is a very amazing experience for me because I had learnt a lot from another culture and made a lot of talented friends. I wish all of you have a wonderful life in the future!

After graduation, I finally need to step outside the school and start a new life now...it is very scary and exciting at the same time. Recently, I used my scholarship for doing self promotion stuff, which actually costs a lot of money and it is very time consuming.

No matter what, I am still believing in it and I will keep working as always!
Good luck^^b

At the senior show, people were looking at my painting

The mentor project---CSO Magazine

 mix media

the actual layout
I believe this is the last project of my college life...no more!! This project is assigned by my mentor Jason Raish who also a FIT graduate and is a working illustrator now. It is really easy working with him and I  want to say thanks to him for helping me. For more of Jason's illustration, please visit his site: www.jasonraish.com

For this project, I need to do a quite boring editorial illustration that the biggest challenge is to make myself enjoy doing it. I experimented many methods to finish it and I 'm actually satisfy with how it comes out.

Jack and the Beanstalk

oil on panel(16" x 20")

I also try to put the tittle on it:))

sketch

This is another project from the mentor class. I really like the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, and specially, the golden egg. I think this is the first time I paint a boy, I am kind of like him and the beanstalk. The thing that I am not satisfy with is the background landscape.

Next week, the senior show will open and I just hope everything can be fine and all of my classmates and friends can have a wonderful night!

The show opening is on May 8th and the show will be there until May 22nd. If yo have time, welcome to visit it, it is a good show!

I almost forget to mention here that I got 4 pieces in the show and won the gold metal. Thanks for my family and all of my professor!

oil on panel(18" x 24")
The project for Sal's class. Finally, She has her chance to visit the city, which is a new world to her!
Recently, I keep working on projects and I have to admit that I am not productive at all. I think the reason is I worry a lot about the thing after the graduation... which coming very soon.
Besides, I am so disappointed that I cannot get into the student show in the Society of Illustrators...
Anyways, I will keep working.

Year 2012

Happy New Year!!!
oil on gesso board(18"x24")
(detail)
Recently, I am working on this painting during the winter break. Actually, the sketch of this painting was done for Sal's class, but I didn't select this one for his project because I knew that I couldn't finish this paintning on time, so I chose to do a much more simple sketch for the project. Since I don't want to waste my sketch, I think it is a good timing to paint it right now.
I do enjoy painting the fur and the hardest part for me is the book. There are so many types that really kill me...Still, I do not satisfy with the type yet. Here, I also made a simple video clip to show the working progress.(some friends wanted to see the progress ) Hope you enjoy!
